Saturday was all about the otters at the ABQ BioPark.
The zoo hosted “River Otter Awareness Day” allowing visitors to learn more about the animals. Kids could enjoy discovery stations, make an otter craft, and even watch an otter movie.
However, the big ticket item was watching river otters Chaos and Mayhem play in their own exhibit. River otters used to be a staple in New Mexico but were nearly extinct. They have since made a comeback.
“Originally, they were in the Rio Grande, the San Juan, Pecos. Now they are coming back and in some states like ours, we’re trying to bring them back,” said Pamela Dupzyk with the ABQ BioPark.
Saturday’s event came with regular admission to the park.
