A drone is helping cops in Rio Rancho fight crime.
The department recently bought the drone to help with searches and rescues, crime scenes and car crash investigations.
Police say it will give them a look at things they could not see before.
It can travel up to three miles away from its operator.
“In years past, reconstructing a traffic scene we would have to send a field investigator to the top of a fire truck ladder to get a bird’s eye view of that scene. With this, we can get the drone up in minutes and start taking photos,” Lt. Ken Willey said.
The drone cost about $2,000.
Right now, one officer is training to use it, and the department plans to train more soon.
