A fire began burning in the Wilderness Ranger District in Grant County Thursday. Officials are calling the blaze the Rincon Fire which is located south of the Grapevine Campground and is west of Hwy 15.

Fire officials say the size of the fire is about 10 to 20 acres based on helicopter visualization. Since the terrain in the area is rugged and steep, officials have decided not to engage the fire directly but to suppress it.

The fire is currently at zero percent containment. Smoke impacts from the blaze are not expected to be great as the fire is in the Gila River corridor and will drift up and away during the day. However, around the evening it is possible for smoke to lower into canyons and basins.

The public is asked to be aware of potential traffic increases in NM 15. While the official cause is unknown, the fire is believed to have been caused by humans.
