CHACO CANYON, N.M. (KRQE) – There’s a renewed plea to limit oil and gas drilling in northwestern New Mexico near some cultural sites.
The biggest concern is Chaco Canyon. Many fear the drilling will harm the historic area.
This week, New Mexico’s congressional delegation sent a letter to the BLM director asking him to limit drilling in the area.
While the agency has deferred the leasing of several parcels close to the historic site called a buffer zone, some argue that area needs to be expanded.
