Unilever has issued a recall for a limited quantity of Ben & Jerry’s Coconut Seven Layer Bar bulk ice cream in addition to Chunky Monkey pints which may contain tree nuts that are not identified in the ingredients list.
Brazil nuts, almonds, and hazelnuts may bee in the products inadvertently. While both ice cream products affected by the recall feature a label on the back state that say “Contain Walnuts” and “May contain other tree nuts,” they pose hazardous to those with severe allergies.
The recall affects the product Ben & Jerry’s Coconut Seven Layer Bar that is sold in bulk in a 2.4-gallon tub and has a Consumer UPC number of 076840104246. The product has a best buy date of SEP1520BH2.
The other recall affects Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey pint (473 mL) and has a Consumer UPC of 07684010034 with best buy dates of AUG 2820BH2, AUG2920BH2, and AUG3020BH2.
The two types of products were shipped nationwide.
No other types or sizes of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream products are affected by this allergy alert. The company Unilever has not received any reports of illnesses attributed to the recalled products however, is issuing the alert out of caution.
The company stated that the issue is a result of an error stemming from one of their nut suppliers.
