Proposal aims to make health insurance more affordable

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Supporters of a new healthcare proposal say it could help reduce the number of uninsured New Mexicans by making health insurance more affordable.

The proposal is a “Medicaid buy-in” that was recently passed as memorials in both the state Senate and in the House.

Rep. Deborah Armstrong (D-Albuquerque) says the proposal would allow those who earn up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level just over $50,000 per year for a family of four to buy into Medicaid.

She says the move could drastically reduce the number of uninsured in the state.
