Property crime technicians help reduce response time to non-urgent calls

News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The city’s new civilian property crime technicians have been on the job for about five months now and are already making a difference.

Sixteen technicians were hired earlier this year to free up police officers who need to respond to more urgent calls.

The techs collect evidence, photograph crime scenes and interview witnesses.

Since they were hired, the techs have responded to nearly 7,000 calls for things like car and home burglaries, resulting in a 15 percent reduction in response time for those types of calls.
