Presbyterian Hospital is celebrating those who helped others get a second chance at life.
To raise awareness for “National Donate Life Month,” the hospital honored people who have given organs to patients who desperately need them, like Yvette Pacheco, who donated a kidney to Bob Davis. Or Brian McNamara, Presbyterian’s first simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplant recipient.
Both say they’re grateful for the gift they received.
“It is a true commitment when you do this. I mean, you’re going to go through surgery. You’ll have a recovery time period, but it is the greatest gift that you could probably ever give in your life,” Bob Davis said.
Presbyterian has performed 26 kidney transplants this year. Last year, organs from 10 deceased donors saved 22 lives.
