PNM has fully restored power at the Albuquerque Sunport after an outage occurred at the airport for a few hours Saturday morning.

Sunport officials say the outage was caused by multiple transformer outages. Though power has been fully restored, Sunport officials say they were expecting significant delays in departures and arrivals.

During the outage, police shut down all traffic into the Sunport until power was restored at the security checkpoint however, those picking up arriving passengers were allowed to pass. Roads into the Sunport were reopened around 8:50 a.m.

Travelers experienced long wait times and delays as crowds moved through security checkpoints and baggage claim.

PNM stated that their crews were able to switch power up by switching to a separate power source and that they are doing further inspection on distribution lines.

No further outages are anticipated and the Sunport has stated that operations have returned to normal. PNM has stated that the power was switched to a different stable source Saturday morning and that crews have identified a ground fault which has been isolated.
