Pope temporarily appoints Bishop Emeritus to the Diocese of Las Cruces

Pope Francis has temporarily appointed a Bishop Emeritus to the Diocese of Las Cruces.

Bishop Emeritus Gerald Kicanas of Tucson has replaced Bishop Oscar Cantu for the time being.

Cantu was recently reassigned to the Diocese of San Jose, California.

Kicanas’ appointment was announced by Pope Francis on Friday.

He will hold the position of Administrator for the Las Cruces Diocese until Pope Francis appoints a permanent bishop.
