New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas announced Thursday via radio show that he will not be running for U.S. Senate. The announcement comes after Senator Tom Udall declared that he will not seek re-election next year.
Attorney General Balderas served as state auditor and as a member of the House of Representatives before being elected to his current position in 2015. Political experts named Balderas, Congressman Ben Ray Lujan, former Governor Susana Martinez and former Congressman Steve Pearce as the top prospects to replace Sen. Udall.
Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver posted on Facebook Thursday that she is seriously considering a campaign for U.S. Senate and that she will announce her decision soon.
