Sen. Tom Udall helped introduce legislation Tuesday that would officially end the War in Afghanistan and bring our troops home.
The 2019 Afghan Service Act would declare victory in Afghanistan, saying the masterminds of the 9-11 attacks are no longer capable of carrying out an attack from Afghanistan.
It would also pay a $2,500 bonus to all members of the military who served in the Global War on Terrorism, which is more than 3 million service members. The cost would be about $7 billion, but Sen. Udall says that’s just a fraction of the $51 billion a year still being spent on the mission.
The bill would also require all U.S. troops to be withdrawn within a year. The war has officially been ongoing since 2001.
The bill is also sponsored by Republican Rand Paul.
