House Republicans are petitioning against a controversial gun control bill.
Senate Bill 8, which requires background checks for guns sold privately and at gun shows, is already on the governor’s desk, but 27 of New Mexico’s 33 counties are refusing to enforce it.
Monday night, the House Republican leader sent a letter to Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver.
It asks her to overturn the bill altogether, claiming it violates constitutional rights. No word yet on the secretary’s response.
