Public education reform bill advances to House

A public education reform bill is heading for a vote on the House floor.

House Bill 5 would raise minimum salaries roughly 11 percent to $40,000 for starting teachers and $60,000 for teachers with advanced credentials. 

It would also increase spending for at-risk students and give districts the chance to apply for grants for a summer school program called K-5 Plus.
