Lawmakers discussing bill that would eliminate taxes on Social Security income

Legislature

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – State lawmakers are discussing a bill that would eliminate taxes on Social Security income. This idea was introduced during last year’s legislative session.

Supporters argued it would relieve a financial burden on senior citizens. However, opponents worry that it would negatively impact state revenue by as much as $100 million. The bill previously stalled, but Monday it was debated in the House Tax and Revenue Committee.
