For the first time this session, lawmakers are taking a stab at legalizing recreational marijuana in the state.

The bill, sponsored by House Democrats, would make it legal for anyone 21 and over to possess up to two ounces of pot.

It also provides for a person to grow up to six mature plants in their home.

The law would allow towns and cities to ban the sale of pot, but they could not ban the use or growing of marijuana in private homes.

The bill will have to clear two House committees to be heard on the House floor.
