A bill that would create a program in schools for circus arts is moving forward.
Senate Bill 412 is sponsored by Democratic Senator Nancy Rodriguez who says circus arts are an effective way for kids to be active.
The bill would allocate $100,000 to public schools for programs like trapeze, clowning and acrobatics. House Republicans say spending the funds on “clowning” would stop private schools from receiving state funding for textbooks.
Friday, the bill cleared the Senate Education Committee and it is now headed to the Finance Committee.
