10,000 government workers in New Mexico affected by shutdown

Politics - Government

Sen. Tom Udall says there are more than 10,000 government workers in New Mexico either furloughed or working without pay.

Monday was the 31st day of the partial government shutdown. Federal workers say they can no longer afford to miss a paycheck.

“Well, why didn’t they save? Why didn’t they plan for an emergency? Like many of us have said, we live paycheck to paycheck just like most of the other Americans,” federal employee Angela Palacios James said.

Over the weekend, Trump offered a proposal to end the government shutdown. His deal includes a three-year extension for recipients of temporary protected immigration status in exchange for $5.7 billion to build a border wall.

Democrats have already rejected it.
