Police: Man accused of attacking wife in maternity ward smuggled drugs into jail

News

TAOS, N.M. (KRQE) – The man accused of attacking his wife and newborn at a Taos hospital has picked up more charges while behind bars.

Police say Rafael Orozco beat his wife in the maternity ward in September 2016, then hit the baby because the woman was breastfeeding in front of a male doctor.

He was arrested in December 2016 following a months-long search. Now, he’s facing charges for smuggling drugs into a jail.

Police said after questioning Orozco about the drugs, he pulled a fire extinguisher off the wall and set off the jail’s fire alarm system.
