CLOVIS, N.M. (KRQE) – A police investigation is underway after an alleged hazing incident involving Clovis High School students.

It reportedly took place during the state track meet back in May.

Superintendent Jody Balch tells the Eastern New Mexico News some students went into a room, lathered a kid up and lotioned his back.

What happened after is unclear, but the superintendent said he felt the incident could be criminal, so police were notified.

Clovis High School Athletic Director Darren Kelley, who was also the track team’s coach, announced his retirement at the beginning of the year.

Superintendent Balch did not say if it was related to the incident.
