Police investigate deadly shooting in northeast Albuquerque

News

Albuquerque Police are investigating a deadly shooting in northeast Albuquerque. It happened at an apartment complex early Friday morning.

Police responded to the Sandia Vista Apartments to reports of a shooting shortly after 5:00 Friday morning.

One person was killed.

Police say they have the suspected shooter in custody and that he is cooperating with investigators.

APD first thought the shooting happened during an attempted home break-in and that a homeowner had shot an intruder.

They now believe it was the result of some sort of domestic dispute, but they do not yet know the relationship between the two men.

“They’re just now going to start walking through the scene so they’re still… they’re interviewing some folks. They’re still waiting to interview other key witnesses before they make any determinations,” said APD Spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos.

Neighbors who live in the homes surrounding these apartments say the area has been going downhill and there are not surprised to see something like this happen.

“This side it would be. But not that side. It’s like a regular thing I guess,” said neighbor Matthew Garcia.

Police have not identified the suspected shooter or the person who was killed.

The investigation is ongoing.
