Police: Child found wandering outside alone in freezing temperatures

News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man is facing child abuse charges after a little boy in his care was found wandering around alone in freezing temperatures.

An Albuquerque police officer said he was conducting a traffic stop at Interstate 25 and Osuna Road when he saw a young boy walking up to his car. He said the boy was crying hysterically and talking about his mom.

The officer got the boy out of the 30 degree temperatures and after some questioning, found out he was staying at the Extended Stay Motel nearby. The Albuquerque Police Department said the boy was left alone by Benjamin Ortiz, his grandmother’s boyfriend.

APD said Ortiz went and got a beer at a nearby restaurant, leaving the boy alone for an hour and a half.
