ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Officers have arrested a convicted felon who was responsible for a shooting in northeast Albuquerque at Wyoming and Candelaria on Thursday afternoon.

Officers say that 33-year-old Eugene Padilla fired numerous rounds hitting a male subject in the leg and almost hitting several innocence bystanders. Police say that Padilla had been tackled by two armed bystanders and held at gunpoint until officers arrived.

The victim was transported to UNM Hospital and they say he is expected to survive his injuries.

Later investigation revealed that the shooting was the result of a dispute over narcotics.

Padilla will be charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and numerous counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Officers say the case will also be forwarded to the ATF for possible federal prosecution of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Detectives say they are still determining if the victim will be charged with any narcotics related offenses.
