News

HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Hobbs.

Hobbs Police responded to a suicidal subject call on Clearfork Street in Hobbs on Wednesday at about 5 p.m. Authorities say while officers were on the scene, a man fired shots at police. Officials have identified that man as Kenneth Lanphier, 48, from Hobbs.

Officials say a Hobbs Police officer fired his weapon and hit Lanphier. Lanphier later died at a hospital in Texas.

Authorities say Lanphier’s female roommate was hit. They say she later died at a local hospital from those injuries.

Police have not yet released the name of the officer involved in the shooting. State Police say the officers are on standard administrative leave during the investigation.
