PNM had to get creative when installing some new power poles in the East Mountains.
Helicopters flew in 15 power poles to the area near the Sandia Peak Ski Area, then flew the old ones out.
Because of the remote location, vegetation had to be cleared and holes had to be hand dug.
The project was designed to provide more reliable service. The new system helps detect faults on the line and clear outages faster.
The pole replacement took just three days compared to the weeks it would typically take.
