PNM light keeping Albuquerque neighborhood up at night

Every night for the last five years, an Albuquerque family has had trouble sleeping because of a light right across the street.

“It’s loud to the point where it’s hard to sleep,” said Chris Orendorff.

The problem isn’t how bright the light is, it’s the sound it makes.

“The light’s been as noisy as it’s been since we moved into the property about five years ago,” said Orendorff.

The light is fine during the day but when the sun sets and the bulb turns on it starts making a very loud buzzing sound.

“We’ve called the city, we’ve called PNM and we keep getting the runaround,” said Orendorff.

PNM owns this light. A spokesperson says a utility crew did go out and inspect the light within the last month. Orendorff saw it happen.

“No action was taken from then on,” said Orendorff.

The PNM spokesperson told News 13 they didn’t know what was wrong with the light or when they will be back out to fix it, only saying there are other types of calls– like burned out street lights or power outages– that take precedence.

After calling PNM for more than a year, Orendorff says fixing this light should be a priority.

“{I feel there’s} just an unwillingness to help,” said Orendorff.

PNM says on a good day their utility crews could complete up to 20 calls. They could not tell us how many projects they have to do.
