SOCORRO, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico’s space science would take a giant leap if plans for a much larger and more advanced VLA radio telescope are realized.
Funding for initial designs of the “next generation” VLA radio telescope was announced Thursday afternoon.
It would be centered at the Very Large Array west of Socorro.
More than 200 antennae would stretch across southern New Mexico and into Old Mexico.
Views of the cosmos would be 10-times better than today’s.
