There’s a new push to allow New Mexicans registered as independents to vote in the next primary election.
Advocates filed a petition with State Supreme Court, asking it to block funding for the state’s closed primary election system.
That system only allows those registered as Democrat or Republican to cast a ballot in the primary.
They say the current system violates the constitution by excluding 22 percent of registered state voters who decline to register as a Democrat or Republican.
