Pedestrian injured in hit-and-run crash; suspect in custody

Albuquerque Police say the driver accused of hitting and seriously injuring a cyclist was likely on drugs at the time of the accident.

Police say 30-year-old Allen Hackett hit a cyclist on Central near Juan Tabo Monday, leaving the rider with critical injuries.

According to a criminal complaint, Hackett was turning into a car wash, when he hit Joe Fricke on his bike.

“We do know the registration on the car and we believe he was trying to make it back to his residence. The victim, in this case,e is clinging on to life, unfortunately,” said APD Officer Simon Drobik.

Police say Hackett then fled from the scene, but was later arrested.

APD has secured a search warrant to perform a blood test on Hackett after he showed signs of intoxication during his police interview.

He is now facing several charges, including great bodily injury by vehicle.
