Park officials warn of possible toxic algae at Elephant Butte

ELEPHANT BUTTE, N.M. (KRQE) – As people get ready to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday.

State Park officials at Elephant Butte are warning of possible toxic algae.

Park officials say toxic blue-green algae might have bloomed in the shallow areas of the lake, along Three Sisters Cove.

They say it could be harmful if consumed by people and deadly for dogs.

Officials have put up warning signs.

They are expecting more than 100,000 people at the Butte during the holiday.
