The state’s Legislative Finance Committee is likely reviewing outgoing Public Education Department Secretary Christopher Ruszowski’s recent budget proposal.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, in the proposed budget, Ruszkowski is asking for $120 million to raise teacher pay. He also wants to put $80 million more into the at-risk index.
Ruszkowski says his proposal is based on the needs of the current K-12 system.
However, with only one day left on the job, his proposal may not be used.
Ruszkowski is being replaced by Gov.-elect Michelle Lujan Grisham’s appointment for Education Secretary.
