Otero County votes against using resources to help asylum seekers

News

A New Mexico county has decided it will not devote county resources to help asylum seekers.

Otero County Commissioners passed a resolution Thursday, pledging not to house immigrants or use county money for other types of assistance.

The resolution, sponsored by Commissioner Couy Griffin, says the county is already struggling to meet the needs of its current residents, and lacks facilities to house immigrants or meet their other needs.
