The Gathering of Nations Pow Wow kicks off next week, and organizers say it will be bigger and better than ever.
This is the second year the event is being held on the grounds of Expo New Mexico.
For decades, it was held at The Pit, but was moved after the University of New Mexico wanted more for rent.
“So last year was the move-in year. This is the year that we got the furniture in place and we’re ready to pick it up and get it going,” GOP Director Derek Matthews said.
The three-day festival will include more than 3,000 singers and dancers representing more than 780 tribes.
An expanded teepee village will also return.
New this is year is the Horse and Regalia Parade honoring the spirit of the Native American horse culture.
The Gathering of Nations Pow Wow starts Thursday with the Miss Indian World Competition.
