Local organizations are helping protect New Mexicans from identity theft. The Better Business Bureau of Albuquerque and Black Dog Shredding hosted a free Secure Your ID event Saturday afternoon.
They shredded more than 13,000 pounds of paper with sensitive information that could lead to identity theft. The organizations say in the age of technology, protecting your financial future is of the utmost importance.
“Don’t leave your purse in the car. Don’t leave your car unlocked. Watch your trash cans, make sure that you’re taking care of your identity needs and not let somebody have easy access to them,” said Guy Appelman, owner of Black Dog Shredding.
This was the sixth annual event.
