OMI report reveals cause of death for Roswell man found in tree

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – The Roswell man found dead in a tree died from a drug overdose and possibly asphyxia, according to an OMI report.

Sergio Salas was found dead in June a few weeks after he was reported missing by his mother. His body was found hanging upside down about 15 feet up in a tree.

Investigators say it appeared he may have fallen or been overcome by exhaustion, but the autopsy reveals the cause of toxic effects of methamphetamine.

Medical investigators say the drugs alone may have killed him, but it’s also possible that he may have suffocated himself in the position he was in, and drugs were a contributing factor.

His mother told KRQE News 13 that her son was troubled and would often climb trees to be alone and think.
