A local comic book store is bringing a new event to Albuquerque and says Aquaman actor Jason Momoa is on board to headline it.
“He’ll be here the entire day, signing autographs, doing photo ops, VIP passes,” New Mexico Comic Expo promoter Matthew Trujillo said.
The DC Comics superhero will be at the new and upcoming New Mexico Comic Expo on Sunday, Aug. 18 at the Albuquerque Convention Center, Trujillo explained.
Trujillo runs Age of Comics with his brother and said he wanted to make a new expo for New Mexicans.
“We’re doing something different. We’re trying to build a fan base for the fans of New Mexico and the southwest region of the United States,” he said. “Something where people can come in and actually meet the guest, see panels, do cosplay, all this stuff that you can see at other conventions around the country but do that here in New Mexico.”
As for how he was able to book the big name actor, he said he’s well connected after going to so many comic conventions across the country with his brother.
He hinted at other special guest appearances at the expo to be announced later this year.
“We still have two, maybe three more big name A-listers coming just as big as Jason Momoa,” he said.

Trujillo said the expo is going to start offering payment plans this weekend for the limited, higher-priced options.
Silicon Valley Comic Con is promoting Momoa the same weekend. Trujillo said Momoa will be in California Saturday and in New Mexico on Sunday.
