Officials break ground on westside Albuquerque mixed-use development

More development is coming to Albuquerque’s westside.

The city, Mortgage Finance Authority, and others broke ground Tuesday on Nuevo Atrisco, a mixed-use project at Central and Unser.

It will include an 86-unit apartment complex, 30,000 square feet of retail space, and a 20,000-square foot plaza. Officials hope to create a hub for housing and entertainment.

“I’ve always thought the library was going to be the anchor, but between Nuevo Atrisco and the Patrick J. Baca Library, we think this entire area is going to prosper and bloom,” Albuquerque City Councilor Ken Sanchez.

Councilor Sanchez says it took more than a decade to get the project off the ground.
