Nonprofit hopes to open new center for women in need

A local non-profit hopes to give female sex trafficking survivors a safe place to go, but it needs your help.

Street Safe New Mexico hopes to transform a 1950s beauty parlor into a women’s center.

The campaign called “Piece by Piece” allows donors to sponsor items for “The Salon,” such as door knobs, light fixtures or a tile.

Women in need say it’s something they’re already looking forward to.

“Somewhere to go at least where there’s other women, or if I needed to talk to somebody about something, that would make me feel really good,” one woman said.

Anyone who contributes will be added to the list of founding donors.
