LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – The New Mexico State Aggies started off their 2016 football campaign with a loss in the Battle of I-10 game with UTEP. The score of that game in El Paso, TX was 38-22.
The Aggies were down their star running back Larry Rose III, who is still nursing a hernia. The team hopes to have him back next week, but no official word yet. It was a tough loss for the Aggies, but Coach Martin liked what he saw from his offense in the second half, as they scored 19 points and showed that they had some fight in them.
“We have made some strides, we were just not clicking on offense in the first half. I think without Larry it kind of hurt us, but we did get things going in the 2nd half a little bit. You know defensively we played pretty good in the first half we just didn’t help our defense offensively,” said NMSU Head Football Coach Doug Martin.
The Aggies will take on the Lobos next in this year’s installment of the Rio Grande Rivalry. That game is Saturday at 6 p.m. in Las Cruces.
