NMSU Falls in the first round of the NCAA tournament 79-68

ALBUQUERQUE N.M. (KRQE)- New Mexico State Men’s Basketball was hoping to break a 25 year old trend and make it past the first round of the NCAA Tournament, but that would not happen on Friday night. 12 seed NMSU would fall to 5-Clemson 79-68, after only shooting 38 percent from the field compared to Clemsons 55 percent.

Clemson had 3 scorers finish in the double figures and would close this game out. NMSU had great performances out of Zach Lofton and Jemerrio Jones, as Lofton finished with a game high of 29 points and Jones would finish with 13 points and 13 rebounds. The Aggies would cut the Tigers lead to 6 with under 6 minutes to play, but Clemson wouldn’t falter down the stretch.
Clemson moves on to play Auburn in the next round on Sunday, while the Aggies road ends in San Diego. Overall the Aggies finish with a record of 28-6 on the season.
