Pollinators, including honey bees, native bees, butterflies, moths, hummingbirds and bats depend on healthy soils for habitat, food, and their health as they are rich in carbon-based organic matter.

More carbon in the ground means less in the air causing climate change in addition to drought resilience for farmers and reduced flooding since healthy soils absorb more water.

The five principles guide land managers, whether farmer, rancher, or gardener, in restoring soil health.

These principles are the basis for the NM Healthy Soils Act HB 204 which will fund educational opportunities both in the classroom and on the ground for farmers, ranchers and others to learn about creating healthy soil.
