Virus targets city computers in Farmington

FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) – It’s not business as usual in Farmington after a virus infiltrated computers there.

The city of Farmington says its system was the target of a “malicious event.” As a precaution the city disconnected all of its Electric Utility Systems computers from the city computers until they can figure out how it happened and who is behind it.

All other city departments including the police department are offline.

Right now, customers will have to pay bills in person or by phone and many files won’t be accessible.

Emergency services are not affected.

The hope is to get the system back up and running by Monday.
