UNM researchers involved in important Grand Canyon discovery

News Briefs

University of New Mexico researchers have helped discover something new about the Grand Canyon.

Two university scientists were part of a group that found some rock formations in the historic canyon are a lot younger than previously thought.

The sixty-mile formation was thought to be about 650 million years old, but this new research shows it is actually about 500 million years old.

The discovery could lead to new information about the flooding of the continents that took place 500 million years ago.
