State agrees to install POW camp historic marker

News Briefs

The State will install a new historic maker to mark the spot of a prisoner of war camp from World War II.

Camp Roswell sat along U.S. Highway 285 south of the city. It was one of the first and largest prisoners of war base camps in the United States.

The Roswell Rotary Club was behind the push to get the marker installed.

The camp held more than 4,800 German POWs at its peak.
