New Mexico governor signs Criminal Record Engagement Act

News Briefs

The governor signed legislation Wednesday that would give people with a criminal past a break.

The Criminal Record Expungement Act allows people who have completed their sentence to petition the courtroom to have their record expunged.

Some offenses are not eligible, like homicide, sex crimes and crimes against children.

The governor also signed off on ‘Banning the Box,’ which removes the criminal history box on initial job applications.
