Group of attorneys plans to read Declaration of Independence aloud

News Briefs

A group of New Mexico attorneys is celebrating the Fourth of July by reminding the public how it all got started back in 1776.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys in Clovis and Portales are planning to read the Declaration of Independence aloud on the steps of their respective courthouses.

Clovis public defender Leah Hutchins told the Eastern New Mexico News, the group is hoping to start a tradition so that people don’t forget the principles of freedom and independence behind the holiday.

The readings are set for Tuesday morning at 11 a.m.
