The governor is calling on state lawmakers to pay off the state’s film tax credit backlog.

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham wants legislators to set aside roughly $380 million to get rid of the tax credit owed to production companies that shot movies or television shows in New Mexico.

House Speaker Brian Egolf says paying what’s owed would require a one-time appropriation from the general fund. This comes as the House prepares to vote on a proposed $7 billion budget.
