Former Espanola police chief found not guilty of child abuse

News Briefs

A former Espanola police chief has been acquitted of child abuse.

Matthew Vigil was charged after he allegedly struck his 13-year-old daughter in the face with a pair of shoes at a sporting goods store and took the girl’s phone away.

Vigil and his daughter told very different stories, and there was no surveillance video from the store available. A jury handed down a not guilty verdict.
