A bill just introduced in the state House would allow higher royalty rates for oil and gas production on state trust land.

The bill would raise the state’s royalty cap to 25 percent to match Texas. The royalties would help bolster funds for things like public education reforms.

The bill would also force energy companies to pay royalties on gas released in an effort to cut down on emissions.
