Bernalillo County approves plan to stop using weed herbicide

News Briefs

Bernalillo County says it will stop using a potentially harmful weed killer.

The herbicide “glyphosate” has been linked to cancer. Commissioners put a moratorium on the chemical months ago.

Last night, they approved a plan to permanently stop using it by next April. However, the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department says the change will now require more personnel and alternative landscaping costing more than $1 million.
